MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 646 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov overnight, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported.

Ukrainian drones attempted to attack industrial infrastructure in Russia’s southern Volgograd Region. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in an apartment building in the city of Volgograd. One person was injured and taken to hospital.

- On-duty air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 646 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Russian regions between 8:00 p.m. Moscow time (5:00 p.m. GMT) on October 1 and 8:00 a.m. Moscow time (5:00 a.m. GMT) on October 2, the Defense Ministry reported.

- According to the ministry, drones were downed over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Tula, Oryol, Rostov, Saratov, Volgograd, Ulyanovsk, Samara and Astrakhan Regions, the Republic of Crimea, the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

- More than 110 UAVs were destroyed in 24 hours over the town of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, the Verkhnedonskoy, Kamensky, Millerovsky, Sovetsky, Tarasovsky, Ust-Donetsky, Chertkovsky, Sholokhovsky and Bokovsky Districts of the Rostov Region, Governor Yury Slyusar said on his Max channel.

- Air defense systems shot down 62 Ukrainian drones over the Voronezh Region, Governor Alexander Gusev wrote in a post on his Max channel.

- Air defense forces intercepted 18 Ukrainian UAVs over the Kaluga Region, Governor Vladislav Shapsha reported on his Max channel.

- According to Shapsha, drones were shot down over the Babyninsky, Duminichsky, Kirovsky, Kozelsky, Lyudinovsky, Maloyaroslavetsky, Peremyshlsky, Sukhinichsky and Ferzikovksy municipal districts, on the outskirts of the towns of Kaluga and Obninsk.

- As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in an apartment building on Udmurtskaya Street in the Krasnoarmeysky District of Volgograd.

- One person was injured and taken to hospital.

- The blaze has been contained.

- Emergency services are working on site, with cleanup efforts underway.

- The governor instructed officials to conduct damage assessments and cleanup work and to prepare temporary shelters.

- A temporary shelter has been opened for residents at school No. 31, the city administration’s press service said.

- Beds and hot meals have been provided there.
