A man fatally shot his parents Wednesday before taking his own life at the family’s apartment near UNLV, Las Vegas police said.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Robert Price said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 10 a.m. from a man who said he had just shot his parents at an apartment in the 1600 block of East Rochelle Avenue, near East Flamingo Road and South Maryland Parkway.

“Then, while the call was going on, dispatch heard one more shot, and the line goes silent,” Price said.

Police went to the residence and found three people with gunshot wounds. Two died at the scene. A third was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The person later died.

The parents were described as a man and woman in their 60s. Their son was in his 40s.

Price said the shooter used a handgun. Police did not immediately know what motivated the shooting, and there was no indication that police had been called to the residence previously for any type of domestic-violence complaints.

“It appears the son did in fact shoot his mother and his father and while online with dispatch he shot himself,” Price said.

Luc Manga lives at the Andover Place apartments. He came home and found numerous police vehicles in front of the complex and crime scene tape stretching across East Rochelle.

“I was coming back from work, and I saw police cars and cameras,” Manga said. “I got in through the gate, went to my mailbox to grab my mail, and I met with a few officers. I asked them what happened. They told me a shooting, so I asked if it was a, you know, a deadly shooting, and they said unfortunately, yes.”

Another nearby resident, David Smith, said he saw first responders tending to a person on a stretcher.

“It was a sad thing to see,” he said.
