I’m writing to voice my support for Mary Shannon Lindstrom as our next state representative for Scarborough (District 124). I respect her willingness to join the race as an independent given three-way races can be challenging, but Mary Shannon doesn’t back down from a challenge (more on that in a minute). I believe she will bring a perspective to her work in the State House that transcends partisan politics and focuses squarely on what helps the people of Scarborough.
I have admired Mary Shannon’s incredible hard work on Scarborough’s School Board and leadership in building consensus around school funding. Passing the bond to address the aging infrastructure and lack of capacity in our local schools took tremendous effort, community input and collaboration over multiple years and election cycles, but Mary Shannon worked tirelessly to advocate for the needs of students.
She is also committed to conservation and ensuring that our land, water and habitats are protected, and that growth is managed in an ecologically sensitive and sustainable manner.
Importantly, Mary Shannon appreciates that Scarborough residents need to be able to afford to live, particularly given the rising cost of housing, property taxes, utilities and everyday essentials. I believe she will keep these important issues front and center when she represents us in Augusta.
