George Takei was spotted on a rare outing with his longtime husband Brad Altman in Los Angeles on Thursday evening.

The beloved sci-fi star, who played Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek franchise, had a smile on his face as his husband pushed his wheelchair out of Craig's in West Hollywood after their romantic dinner.

The actor, 89, and Altman, 72, first met in the 1980s and have been together for 40 years. The pair tied the knot in 2008.

For their dinner date, the legendary actor wore a purple button-up that complemented his husband's bright blue button-down.

Their outing comes shortly after it was revealed that Altman has 'stepped in as a full-time caregiver' for Takei after recent health setbacks.

Takei reportedly had to undergo foot surgery recently and now often relies on a wheelchair.

'This isn't a burden — it's devotion,' a source told Rob Shuter in May. 'Brad has stepped in as a full-time caregiver, and he's not missing a beat. He's there for everything.'

Altman's caregiver status has deepened their bond, according to friends close to the longtime couple.

'Brad isn't just helping out,' the insider added. 'He's all in — every appointment, every moment, every need. No hesitation. It's not glamorous. It's not for show. It's love — real, steady and unshakable.'

Altman previously worked as a financial journalist before later becoming Takei's business manager after they started quietly dating circa 1985.

Back in 2024, Takei reflected on their long-lasting union and revealed the secret to their successful marriage.

'He keeps me laughing and he keeps me getting angry. I think it’s sharing these emotions,' Takei said, acknowledging they are 'opposites,' in an interview with People.

The actor added: 'Brad is a strict disciplinarian. Brad is detail-oriented, he's organized and he brings that detail and organization to my life so that I can do what I do.'

The actor, 89, and Altman, 72, were last spotted taking a casual daytime stroll together about half a year ago

By way of example, he offered that Altman will demand they 'leave the apartment in five minutes' at a point 'about 20 minutes before I need to leave.'

He explained the discrepancy, saying: 'We understand each other. When he's giving me only five minutes, I know we have 20 minutes.'

The pair recently made a honorable move as they pledged to gift their $21 million estate to the Japanese American National Museum.

Takei, who has been a trustee of the museum since its founding in 1985, continues to serve on the board and also donated an extensive collection of memorabilia to the museum.

He has long been vocal about the internment of Japanese Americans in World War II and his own family's experience during that time.

'Star Trek itself is living long and prospering. '"Live long and prosper" should include gratitude. Gratitude for the blessings we have'

Over the summer, Takei reunited with William Shatner as the original series marked its 60th anniversary, and in an interview with AARP, he shared his thoughts on the legacy of Star Trek.

'Star Trek is a family show. Our most steady audience members are grandpas and grandmas,' he said as he referred to the many spinoffs of the original series as the 'children and grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.'

He continued: 'So it appeals to all the generations of our audience group. Star Trek itself is living long and prospering.

'"Live long and prosper" should include gratitude. Gratitude for the blessings we have.'
