A tiny orange kitten who was thrown over a Maryland bridge was miraculously saved by police.

An individual was driving across the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge when they suddenly threw a tiny orange cat out of the window and over the barrier and kept driving on Sunday.

Two witnesses, including a biker crossing the bridge, flagged down Maryland-National Capital Park Police Officer Christi Montgomery, to report the horrifying incident.

She found the small kitten, who is estimated to be between four and six weeks old, sitting on a small lip of the bridge, inches from death and the Potomac River.

A video posted by the police showed Montgomery encouraging the mighty feline to hop up to the fencing, where she could safely grab him and pull him to safety.

'Oh come on!' she said as the kitten let out a scared meow.

'My heart’s dropping thinking he’s not coming back, but he did, and it was the craziest thing ever,' she told Fox 5 DC.

'For a minute, I thought: "What could I do?"'

Luckily, Montgomery, who rescues animals, had cat food in her cruiser, which she used to entice the feline back to safety.

The cat had to jump up on multiple parts of the bridge in order to sneak back under the railing to safety.

'Three feet different, it never would have lived,' Montgomery told the outlet. 'It would have gone into the river. He was so scared. I was scared, but he's okay.'

The kitten was taken to the Prince George's County Animal Shelter, where he is recovering.

He does not appear to be up for adoption on the shelter's website just yet.

However, one of the good Samaritans who reported the abuse to police has offered to pay for all of the kitten's adoption fees to whoever wants to give the cat a forever home, Fox 5 DC reported.

It is unclear if the alleged animal abuser will face charges.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the police for comment.
