A man had his faith in humanity restored after a teenage McDonald’s employee paid for his meal, prompting him to share the unexpected act of generosity with his local news station.

Matthew works at McDonald’s in Rexburg, Idaho. One Friday evening, a customer stopped by for dinner and ordered a hamburger and a shake. But while waiting to pay, the customer realized he didn’t have his wallet.
After frantically searching for his missing wallet and trying unsuccessfully to pay with his phone, the customer figured his only option was to cancel the order.
That’s when Matthew stepped in.
He offered to pay for the meal himself and kept insisting that it was okay. The customer eventually agreed, promising to pay Matthew back and asking for his name and phone number.
The next morning, the customer tried to return the money but couldn’t reach Matthew. Instead, he contacted East Idaho News to make sure someone knew about what he had done.
“I feel that it was an act of kindness that should be recognized,” the customer wrote in an email.
East Idaho News agreed and tracked Matthew down at work as part of their weekly Feel Good Friday segment, where they surprise deserving people in the community.
The news team surprised him with multiple restaurant gift cards along with gifts from several of their partners as a way of thanking him for showing kindness to a stranger.
Matthew was clearly grateful for the unexpected recognition. He may have only paid for someone’s hamburger and shake, but his simple decision to help made a lasting impression.
