Jack Grieves is targeting a return to match action following the international break after injury disrupted his preparations for the start of the 2026/27 season.
The Watford-born academy graduate said the ongoing three-week pause to the league season has offered a chance for him and other players to recover and prepare for the next part of the campaign.
“The international break has come at a good time for me,” said the 21-year-old to watfordfc.com.
“It's like a mini pre-season, so I can get up to speed with the team and get back with the lads.
“It gives us a chance to kick-on because there are a lot of games coming up.” Grieves missed the beginning of the campaign with a knee problem but has been working hard on the training ground.
The setback was a blow for the youngster as he also missed most of last season with injury, making just five appearances for the Hornets.
“It’s been tough,” said Grieves. “I’ve had a year full of injury which has been difficult, both physically and mentally.
“This one has been more tough as it was at the start of pre-season when I wanted to come in under a new manager and push on, which I wasn’t able to do.
“It was quite mentally taxing. It has been about putting my head down and being focused – getting my mind and body right so I can get out on the pitch as soon as possible.” Head Coach Alessio Dionisi has marked Grieves as a player he hopes to reintegrate into the team.
The midfielder was an unused substitute in the Hornets' last match against Bristol City, and said Dionisi and his staff have been helpful and encouraging during his time on the sidelines.
“Alessio has been good with me,” he said.
“He’s been checking in on me and that is an important thing for an injured player. It’s good to have that connection with the coaching staff.
“I have watched training and games when I haven’t been doing my rehab work.
“Everything looks positive and there is a good atmosphere around the place which is based on what Alessio has created.
“He’s been really good with me and really supportive. I can’t ask for anything more from the coaching staff.
“I’m eager to get back out there and feel part of the team.” Tickets For The Return To The Vic
