The Las Vegas Raiders will be without starting right guard Jackson Powers-Johnson on Sunday against the Chiefs.

Aidan O’Connell may be available as the emergency quarterback, however. And AJ Cole will still be the punter despite another punter being brought in for practice.

Powers-Johnson did not practice all week with groin injury and has officially been ruled out of the 1:25 p.m. battle for first place in the AFC West at Allegiant Stadium.

Caleb Rogers, who battled Powers-Johnson for the job throughout training camp, will start in his place.

“That helped the entire offensive line, and we’ve still got young guys that can play,” coach Klint Kubiak said of the competition. “It’s a 70-man roster, so we’re counting on everybody.”

Rogers played the final five offensive snaps last week in New Orleans and started six games as a rookie last season.

O’Connell has been back home with his family mourning the death of his father. Kubiak had expected O’Connell to return to practice this week, but that did not happen.

Still, he believes O’Connell will be with the team Sunday and should be in uniform to serve as the emergency quarterback if necessary.

Kubiak said he would “absolutely” feel comfortable with O’Connell taking snaps despite not having practiced in two weeks.

The team has no concern about its All-Pro punter despite bringing rookie James Platte in for a tryout.

Cole’s job is very safe, but he punts right-footed.

The Raiders needed a lefty to prepare for Kansas City’s Matt Araiza, so they had Platte punt at practice.

“The spin is different,” special teams coach Joe DeCamillis said. “He hit a ton of balls. He’s a guy that has a chance to be a punter in this league.

‘I think it was good for the returners to see it. “

Running back Dylan Laube, wide receiver Malik Benson and practice squad wide receiver Deven Thompkins all took reps fielding punts from Platte, who was the FCS punter of the year at Citadel last season.

Platte also participated in Raiders rookie minicamp as an invitee.
