A $73.5 million project to widen and add new bridges to the 215 near Downtown Summerlin was awarded to Las Vegas Paving last week.
The project will add one lane in each direction of the 215 between Charleston Boulevard and Far Hills Avenue, with a new braided ramp added from 215 northbound to Charleston, crossing over Hughes Park Drive East.
Rahel Shibeshi, principal civil engineer for Clark County said the project will create new ramps that will let drivers on Summerlin Center Drive enter the freeway directly without having to use Charleston, while allowing drivers exiting the 215 to directly access Charleston.
The project is planned to begin in the summer and features a 540-day work schedule.
The work will occur as the 215-Summerlin Parkway interchange project continues nearby. That project to reconfigure the 215-Summerlin Parkway interchange includes a flyover ramp from 215 southbound to Summerlin Parkway, new bridges, the widening of the Summerlin Parkway bridge over the 215 and three new bridges to extend the 215 Beltway pedestrian/bike trail. The $130 million project began last year and is scheduled for completion in 2028.
Tropicana to DurangoAnother project on the 215 is in the southwest valley, where new on-and-off-ramps will be added at Sunset Road and Durango Drive.
One on-ramp will lead drivers heading south on Durango, passing Ikea, onto 215 northbound toward Summerlin, allowing better direct access to the freeway.
Another on-ramp is being added from Sunset to the 215 eastbound.
An additional left turn lane on the 215 westbound off-ramp to Durango southbound is being added as part of the work.
The project was put out to bid last year and carries a price tag of $24.9 million to $27.5 million. Work on the project is expected to begin early next month.
Summerlin Parkway to HualapaiA project that is not imminent but is at 90 percent designed is one to widen the 215 between Summerlin Parkway and Hualapai Way.
The beltway will go from three lanes in each direction to four when the project is completed.
Frontage roadsThe frontage roads that run alongside the 215 are also being upgraded.
Rafael Rivera Way and Roy Horn Way between Decatur Boulevard and Sunset will be widened and receive drainage improvements. The work is underway now near Sunset and will move from north to south to other portions of the frontage roads thereafter.
