3. Yoko Ono’s IMAGINE PEACE TOWER relights for the 20th time on Viðey on 9 October

On Friday, 9 October at 8:00 PM, Yoko Ono’s IMAGINE PEACE TOWER on Viðey island in Reykjavik, Iceland, will be illuminated for the twentieth time. The anniversary marks two decades since the unveiling of one of Iceland’s most iconic public artworks, a beacon of peace, hope and solidarity that has become a landmark in Reykjavík and beyond.

To celebrate the occasion, visitors are invited to a special programme of guided tours, cultural activities and live music throughout the evening. The festivities will culminate in a performance by Árný Margrét, an address by Reykjavík Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir, and the ceremonial lighting of the tower at 8:00 pm, accompanied by John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s ‘Imagine’.

Created by Yoko Ono and dedicated to John Lennon, IMAGINE PEACE TOWER carries a message of peace that resonates as strongly today as ever. Illuminated annually from John Lennon’s birthday on 9 October through to New Year’s Eve, the artwork continues to inspire visitors from around the world to imagine and work towards a more peaceful future.

Further information about the programme and registration is available on the Reykjavík Art Museum website: listasafnreykjavikur.is.
