Franchise co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos at New York Comic Con on Friday. The event also gave attendees a first look at Kuruk and his pet, Nikik.

According to a statement from Skydance, reported by Reuters, Kuruk's adventures will involve trying to stay ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates and chaotic spirits. At the same time, the young Avatar will attempt to help the world in his own way.

The series will explore another chapter in the franchise's history, with Kuruk taking centre stage. Further details about the supporting cast, voice actors and episode count have not yet been provided in the announcement.

Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos is about an adolescent Avatar who rebels against the world around him. As he attempts to fulfilll his obligations, his experiences with pirates, spirits, and his teacher are anticipated to influence his adventures.

The show is part of the broader Avatar: The Last Airbender universe. The world is divided into four nations: water, earth, fire, and air. The Avatar is the only individual capable of mastering all four elements.

The original animated series follows Aang, a young Air Nomad, as he learns to manipulate the elements to restore balance to the world.

Over the years, the franchise has expanded beyond Aang's narrative. The Legend of Korra introduced a new Avatar, further expanding the universe, and Avatar: Seven Havens is another upcoming installment in the series. According to the announcement, Seven Havens has been renewed for two additional seasons.

The new animated series is set to stream on Paramount+. However, the makers have not announced an official release date, so viewers will have to wait for an update on when the show will premiere.

The official confirmation from the streaming platform for Indian audiences is yet to be out. Talking about the viewers in India, JioHotstar might be a possible destination but there is no confirmed announcement that the series will be available on the platform. Fans should wait for details from the makers or the streaming services before making plans to watch it.

DiMartino and Konietzko have played a major role in expanding the Avatar universe. The duo was previously involved in creating Netflix's live-action adaptation of the original animated series. However, they left the project in 2020 due to creative differences.

In 2021, they partnered with Nickelodeon to establish Avatar Studios, which is dedicated to developing new films and television projects within the franchise. Stay tuned for more details!
