Phasmophobia has sold more than 30 million copies across PC and console since it launched in Early Access in 2020.

Developer Kinetic Games shared the milestone alongside confirming the return of Crimson Eye, its annual Halloween event, which is now live and runs until 1st November.

Crimson Eye brings blood moon weather to a rotating set of maps each day, which makes ghosts faster and drains your sanity more quickly, but pays out more in return. The event maps are Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope (standard only), Edgefield Road, Nell's Diner, and Willow Street.

Community goals unlock the Beholder ID Card and Badge, and the Blood Moon Trophy, while personal goals unlock the Blood Moon Charm, a seasonal t-shirt, and upgrades to the Crimson Eye trophy.

If that's not quite enough for you, watch two hours' worth of Phasmophobia streams on Twitch between 8th and 15th October and you'll get a Crimson Eye t-shirt cosmetic. You can also earn double XP and rewards from 15th to 22nd October.

Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts is also back for the final week of the event, from 26th October to 1st November, in support of the American Heart Association. The Phasmophobia community raised more than $100,000 for the charity last year.

"So much has changed since I started making Phasmophobia on my own at my parents' house," said Kinetic Games CEO and Phasmophobia game director Daniel Knight.

"My initial goal was to sell 1000 units in the first year, so it's hard to believe we're celebrating 30 million. I'm so grateful to everyone who has played, and to the team who have worked alongside me on it. There is plenty more to come as we head towards 1.0."

That 1.0 release is slated for the second half of 2027, and Kinetic Games will start sharing sneak peeks of its development next year, including major overhauls to ghost design and gameplay.

The studio also launched a publishing arm, Kinetic Publishing, earlier this year. Its first game, the starship job simulator Contact Protocol, is due out in Spring 2027.

Phasmophobia is available in Early Access on Steam, PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X/S. It's also coming to Nintendo Switch 2, although we still don't quite know when.

Earlier this year, Kinetic Games confirmed Phasmophobia's 1.0 launch had slipped from this year into 2027, as the studio said it was prioritising quality over speed following a rocky reception to its Player Character Update. Kinetic Games ended up apologising to players for issues with its long-awaited 'Player Character Update', admitting it "missed the mark" and "didn't deliver on our promises to you".

In numerous patches and hotfixes released since to address the many issues spawned by the latest update, the studio explained how it had been working through player feedback to provide "a much better experience for everyone playing Phasmophobia". More recently, Kinetic released Phasmophobia's second Quality of Life update, adding a raft of new Restricted maps, streamlined Evidence collection, VR fixes, and considerably more ways to die.

"We've read feedback from across the entire community. The frustration and disappointment has been clear," the team admitted.
