Since 2021, IWC has been the official timing partner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, one of Europe’s most prestigious golf tournaments. Held this year at St. Andrews in Scotland, the sport’s spiritual birthplace, the tournament features both a professional DP World Tour event and a pro-am pairing event.

In celebration of this year’s Championship, IWC designed a stunning new dial for the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, which is, fittingly, green.

A vintage-style pilot’s watch with a 43mm stainless steel case may not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering a timepiece for the golf course. But the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph reference IW378008 is handsome enough on paper that the logic needs no questioning.

It is far from the first green dial to grace IWC’s flagship chronograph, but this particular shade of rich olive with a sunburst finish is new.

Aside from the new dial, this is a standard-issue 43mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. The case is finished with vertical brushing and polished chamfers, topped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and features a screw-down crown flanked by button-style pushers.

It is powered by the IWC Caliber 69385 automatic movement, featuring a column-wheel, 4Hz beat rate and a 46-hour power reserve.

On the green

IWC has produced so many variations of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph that it is challenging to stand out, but this dial deserves recognition for its handsome understatement. The green is darker than previous shades and pairs beautifully with the dash of gold plating on all six hands.

The familiar dial layout features cushion-printed numeral hour markers and a minutes track encircling the dial. Super-LumiNova is applied to the numerals, hour indices and hands.

There is a small seconds at 6:00, a 12-hour totalizer at 9:00 and a 30-minute totalizer at 12:00. Two unframed windows at 3:00 display white day and date discs.

IWC provides both a five-link stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp and a rubber pin buckle strap. The pair is easily interchangeable thanks to the brand’s EasX-Change System.

Availability and price

IWC’s Olive Green Pilot’s Watch Chronograph is available now for $9,500. Despite the tournament tie-in, it is a regular production addition to the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph collection.
