Publishing Revit Model Takes Forever

Does anyone know any ways to speed up the publishing process? 
Currently, publishing project in Revit takes relatively quick, the slow part is when we want to create a package to share with our consultants. I select "Update to Latest" and a lot of times I get "There are no new sets to update from your team." After trying it a few more times, sometimes it will try to start updating the set (saying 20%, 40%, or 60%), but a lot of times I can't even get it to this point. Sometimes it starts to update, and then after leaving it be for 5-10 min. I see it's stopped. On average, it takes 1-2 hrs just to update the set. Does anyone have any input on this, as it is a major time issue for us?
