Explosions wounded at least 18 people in Damascus on Tuesday as French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Syrian capital, with witnesses reporting smoke rising near a high-end hotel where the leader spent the night. It was the second attack to rock Damascus in a week as new President Ahmad al-Sharaa as welcomed the first major Western leader since Bashar al-Assad was ousted in late 2024.
