Bell updated its website yesterday to note a new perk for its higher end plans, with 10,000 Aeroplan points now available.
The company’s $85 and $100 per month ‘unlimited’ roaming plans (that have a 5GB/day cap) now indicate you can get Aeroplan points issued “over 12 months of subscription with account in good standing”. Initially, the website yesterday noted they would be issued after two months, but that has since been clarified.
You usually earn Aeroplan points through a co-branded credit card, flying Air Canada, or spending with partner brands. On the credit card side, most Aeroplan cards earn somewhere around 1 to 1.5 points per dollar on everyday spending, so racking up 10,000 points typically means putting roughly $7,000 or more through your card, depending on your card and its bonus categories. If you’d rather just buy them outright, 10,000 Aeroplan points run about $375 at Aeroplan’s regular price, though that drops during the frequent sales the program runs throughout the year..
Of course, there’s some fine print on how to actually get these points. Bell says you’ll need to activate or upgrade to an eligible Ultra or Max mobility plan, and tablet and smartwatch subscriptions don’t count.
How you receive the points depends on which plan you’re on. If you’re on Bell SmartPay, the points show up 60 days after activation, as long as both your Bell and Aeroplan accounts stay in good standing for at least three months. Bring-your-own-phone customers get their points spread out in installments over 12 months, with the first batch landing 60 days after activation, and accounts need to stay in good standing for 13 months.
There are a couple more catches worth knowing. To actually get the credit, Bell says your accounts have to be linked within 30 days of the final issuance date. And if you make any service changes during the term or cancel your agreement early, you could forfeit your points or get stuck paying off the rest of your device balance right away.
Bell and Air Canada are partners so it’s no surprise we’re seeing Aeroplan being leveraged on wireless plans now. Other perks for select wireless plans right now include three months of free TSN, free Crave Standard with Ads and 12 months of Perplexity Pro AI.
