CNN has offered viewers an on-air apology for quoting a fake congressman's social media post while discussing Republican Senator Mitch ‌McConnell's health.

The moment on Wednesday's 'CNN This Morning' featured statements from prominent conservatives like Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate GOP Whip John Brassard about McConnell's weekslong absence.

McConnell, 84, was hospitalized after being found unconscious in his Kentucky home on June 14. His health problems have not been disclosed.

Host Audie Cornish had just read an X post from Laura Loomer claiming McConnell is 'officially brain-dead' when the four additional statements flashed on the screen.

Among them was a quote from NewsNight star Scott Jennings that claimed McConnell was on the mend.

The final quote came from a 'Representative Jack Kimble', who does not exist. The completely fabricated personality posts satirically on X and has some 123,000 followers.

'Yesterday on the show, we displayed quotes from a Republican, some Republicans, about Senator Mitch McConnell’s stay in the hospital,' Cornish said to start Thursday's 'This Morning'.

'One of them was mistakenly taken from a parody account on Twitter. Now, obviously, we should not have done that, and we regret the error,' the former NPR host said.

'CNN This Morning' star Audie Cornish issued an apology on behalf of her network on Thursday for a segment about Senator Mitch McConnell's health the day before

The segment feature quotes from prominent conservatives - apart from a post from a completely made-up congressman that claimed

The Kimble account responded to CNN's flub in a post the day before, writing over a photo of the segment in question: 'CNN’s extreme leftwing bias exposed.'

'Kimble' wrote in the post: 'I spoke to my old friend Mitch McConnell this morning, the senior Senator from Kentucky. He's still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 45 minutes.'

The other posts, aside from Loomer's, all cited conversations the conservatives had with McConnell and claimed he was recovering at a hospital.

No other details were provided. Loomer cited a 'high-level source' close to the White House.

The Kimble account has been known to fool people before, with former Washing Post columnist and current MS NOW host Jonathan Capehart penning an entire op-ed about a 2010 post from the faux-California congressman that claimed the US's military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan didn’t cost then-President Bush a single penny.

Similar, stir-the-pot-type posts have followed in the 16 years since.

'Kimble' has a complete Wikipedia page dedicated to detailing the page's premise.

'Jack Kimble, also known by his Twitter username @RepJackKimble, is a fictional and satirical character active on the social media websites Twitter and Bluesky,' a section reads.

The social media prankster posted again on Wednesday to pan CNN for the slip-up

The senator’s unspecified health issues come after multiple hospitalizations in recent years.

McConnell is currently in the midst of his final term before retirement. It ends in January.

He was the longest serving Senate leader in history before he stepped down in November.
