The veteran rock group unveiled the expanded schedule (and made the fresh tickets available) today, two months and change after kicking off the Final Frontier Tour. Out of the gate, Journey teed up 61 North American performances, the last of which is expected to take place on July 2nd in Laredo, Texas.

Now, however, the Final Frontier Tour will pick back up with a mid-September stop in LA, followed by shows in a number of states as well as five Canadian cities en route to a November 28th conclusion in San Francisco.

Just in passing, this includes planned concerts in well-established live markets (like Chicago and Las Vegas) and some locations (Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Providence, Rhode Island, among them) that aren’t necessarily known for having jam-packed event calendars.

Furthermore, it’s safe to describe the added dates as a significant expansion as opposed to a manufactured add-on designed to drum up media coverage. And the move is certainly indicative of nostalgia’s staying power in the music world; though Journey arrived on the scene over half a century ago and has released two studio albums during the past 15 years, many fans are evidently eager to see the group perform.

(Superfans aren’t without VIP options; a “Forever Diamond VIP Package” includes a reserved floor seat within the first three rows; “a collector’s set of exclusive tour posters”; a “custom digital tour photobook”; and a “VIP merchandise time capsule.” Diehards can also choose from Gold, Silver, and Bronze packages, the biggest difference between each appearing to be seat positioning.)

Naturally, with ABBA Voyage having proven a resounding commercial success, and with a KISS avatar concert on the way, this raises questions about whether a hologram performance could be in the long-term cards for Journey.

But as underscored by today’s news, the 58-year-old didn’t quit Journey (reportedly due to his bandmates’ unwillingness to accommodate the request) and is poised to see the Final Frontier Tour through. On one hand, that’s a positive for fans; on the other hand, it seemingly means this is, in fact, a farewell tour – at least when it comes to the current lineup.
