Captains Johnny and Monica Horton have officially arrived in Chattanooga and are beginning their ministry as the new area commanders for The Salvation Army of Chattanooga. While the Hortons are new to this leadership role, they are not new to Chattanooga. The pair called the city home over 10 years ago during their first appointment as lieutenants.

“We are excited to be back in Chattanooga and to serve this community again,” said Captain Johnny.

After graduating from The Salvation Army's Training College, the Hortons were appointed to Chattanooga as the Citadel Corps officers.

Ten years later, they have returned to lead the Chattanooga Area Command, their first appointment now becoming their first Area Command leadership assignment.

“There is something special about returning to our first appointment as first time Area Commanders. It feels like a full-circle moment,” said Captain Monica.

The Hortons have five children, four of whom have moved to Chattanooga with them. They are excited to see how the city has grown over the past decade and look forward to serving the community alongside Salvation Army staff, volunteers, advisory board members, donors and community partners.
