Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan underwent surgery on his right shoulder for relief from a severe rotator cuff injury in a Mumbai hospital Saturday (July 11, 2026) morning.

Surgery for the left shoulder, which also has its rotator cuff injured, will be performed after two months, according to a press release.

Doctors advised against operating on both shoulders simultaneously in view of the likelihood of the pain aggravating during recovery. The surgery on the right shoulder lasted for three and a half hours.

Mr. Kalyan sustained shoulder injuries in 2016 and had since participated in various programs though doctors advised rest after first aid.

During the Porata Yatra in 2018, party cadres and fans, in their enthusiasm to get close to their leader, used to frequently pull his hands and shake them, causing pain, which intensified subsequently.

The injuries became more serious during his Varahi Yatra and tour of Rayalaseema region after the 2019 elections as the physical strain on his shoulders increased, but he ignored the condition.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wished Mr. Kalyan a speedy recovery and good health.
