nwipe is a secure disk erasure utility for Linux and a fork of the dwipe command originally used by Darik’s Boot and Nuke.

It securely wipes the contents of block devices, can process one drive or multiple disks in parallel, and can be run either from the command line or through an ncurses-based interface. The project also supports recognised sanitisation methods and can generate PDF certificates for completed wipe jobs.

This is free and open source software.

• Supports recognised sanitisation methods including Fill With Zeros, Fill With Ones, RCMP TSSIT OPS-II, DoD Short, DoD 5220.22-M, Gutmann Wipe, Schneier Wipe, HMG IS5 Enhanced, and BMB21-2019.
• Includes multiple pseudorandom number generators such as ChaCha20, AES-256-CTR, SplitMix64, XORoshiro-256, Mersenne Twister, and ISAAC.
• Offers configurable I/O modes with automatic, direct I/O, and cached I/O operation.
• Uses large aligned I/O buffers to improve throughput on fast storage devices.
• Generates PDF certificates for completed wipe jobs.
• Works with optional tools such as hdparm and smartmontools for features including HPA/DCO detection and SMART data collection.
• Supports excluding devices using stable paths such as /dev/disk/by-id/*.
