LEAVE IT TO CHINA TO CELEBRATE ANCIENTS...
World's largest exhibition of ancient American civilizations opens in Huangpu
The world's largest and most comprehensive exhibition of ancient American civilizations has opened at the Shanghai Museum on People's Square, promising a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience.
Titled On Top of the World Tree: Ancient Civilizations of the Americas, the exhibition showcases nearly 3,000 artifacts across more than 7,000 square meters. Many of them are masterpieces making their first-ever journey outside their countries of origin.
The Sacred Space and Cyclical Time section, located on the first and second floors, showcases more than 2,600 cultural relics from 13 Mexican institutions. It uses the cosmology of the Mesoamerican World Tree as the guiding thread, inviting visitors into a spiritual realm structured around this arboreal axis of the cosmos.
The Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru section on the third floor displays 325 treasures from Peru's Larco Museum. The dazzling achievements and distinctive order of the Andean civilizations are showcased through exquisite gold and silver artifacts.
