EastEnders' Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) faces a heart-wrenching dilemma after his recent hit-and-run involving Jordan Fox.
As Ian's plea hearing looms, he's caught between self-preservation and accepting accountability for the collision that left Jordan (Jahsaiah Williams) with devastating injuries, confining him to life without the ability to walk.
In Monday's episode (July 13) of the BBC soap, Ian's anxiety mounted ahead of the next day's hearing, though he attempted to maintain composure around his loved ones. His façade began to crack when his solicitor arrived bearing updates.
"We'll start with the good. The CPS is open to the possibility of a careless driving charge, instead of dangerous driving," the lawyer revealed, adding that this would "likely result in a reduced sentence," although Ian still risks up to two years imprisonment given the severity of Jordan's condition.
Ian appeared shaken as his solicitor counseled, "Mr. Beale, I recommend you plead guilty," reports the Daily Star.
Receiving contradictory guidance from relatives has left Ian bewildered about his next move. While maintaining his innocence, he's terrified at the prospect of incarceration.
Seeking counsel, Ian made his way to Peacock Palace to consult Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), only to witness Denise Fox's (Diane Parish) return to the Square.
Sadly, the family has little patience for Ian's predicament or desire for exoneration, as they remain focused on supporting both Jordan and Denise through their respective recoveries.
Later on, Peter (Thomas Law) and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) discovered Ian sat pensively on a bench in the Square, his expression grave. He confides in them about his determination to ensure Jordan "gets some justice" and to "do the right thing".
"I don't want Jimmy and Louie being ashamed of me," he says emotionally, before declaring, "I'm going to plead guilty. I'm going to prison."
Ian's declaration has sparked concern amongst EastEnders devotees that he may be preparing to leave Walford.
On X, one worried viewer posted: "Does that mean Ian Beale aka Adam Woodyatt is leaving #EastEnders", while another responded: "Oh Ian", accompanied by a broken heart emoji."
A third viewer remarked: "Omg what an ending. But at least Ian did the right thing", with another suggesting: "That's Ian off on his holidays then. Sharon's been off for a couple of years, so now it's his turn #EastEnders."
