Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo (R), who is running for re-election, avoided a traffic citation after identifying himself to a Las Vegas police sergeant, according to body camera footage obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. On May 15, the officer pulled over Lombardo's Ford pickup near Mandalay Bay for a suspected red light violation. The Governor's wife, Donna, was in the car as well, according to The Las Vegas Review Journal. Before the sergeant could explain the violation, Lombardo immediately identified himself, saying, "I'm Joe Lombardo." The officer responded, "I'm aware," and attempted to explain the red light violation, but Lombardo interrupted with "C'mon on, man." The sergeant then released him without a citation, per report. Lombardo's campaign claimed he was simply being courteous and not seeking preferential treatment, contradicting the video evidence. The Las Vegas Police Protective Association provided the footage to the Review-Journal. Police union president Steve Grammas defended the sergeant's decision as routine.Watch the video below. On May 15, the officer pulled over Lombardo's Ford pickup near Mandalay Bay for a suspected red light violation. The Governor's wife, Donna, was in the car as well, according to The Las Vegas Review Journal.
Before the sergeant could explain the violation, Lombardo immediately identified himself, saying, "I'm Joe Lombardo."
The officer responded, "I'm aware," and attempted to explain the red light violation, but Lombardo interrupted with "C'mon on, man."
The sergeant then released him without a citation, per report.
