Indian Coast Guard personnel rescued six fishermen from a distressed Indian fishing boat ‘Manju Matha’ in a maritime search and rescue operation off Mangaluru coast on Monday (June 29, 2026) evening.

A release from Karnataka unit of the Coast Guard said on Tuesday (June 30), that the coast guard ship ‘Sachet’ received a distress call from the fishing boat located at about 33 nautical miles off Surathkal coast at about 4 p.m. on June 29. Fishermen in the boat reported severe flooding and hull damage due to rough sea conditions, placing the lives of all six crew members at imminent risk.

The coast guard immediately diverted its ship to render assistance. The ship reached the distressed vessel within 90 minutes. The rescue operation was done under extreme weather conditions. Rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and approaching darkness significantly complicated the mission, demanding exceptional seamanship, precision, and coordination from the rescue team. Despite the formidable challenges, the crew of ‘Sachet’ rescued the fishermen.

Backed by advanced rescue technology, the team deployed remote-operated lifebuoys specifically designed for use in inclement sea conditions to safely reach and recover the stranded fishermen.

All six crew members were rescued safely and without injury by about 6 p.m.. Later, the ship with the rescued fishermen sailed towards New Mangalore Port.

The fishing boat, IND KA 02 MO 5268, was registered in Udupi.
