Cristiano Ronaldo played his last-ever World Cup game on 6 July, the Portugal captain leaving the pitch after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Spain.

It's been two decades since the iconic footballer made his debut in the competition, but 2026 will be his last, he confirmed on Tuesday.

Although the defeat will undoubtedly have left Portugal fans with heavy hearts, Cristiano, 41, insisted that he had given his "best" and would be departing with a "clear conscience".

Over the course of his illustrious career, Cristiano has become one of the most recognisable faces in the world, not only for his incredible sporting ability, but for his extravagant lifestyle afforded by his huge success in football.

At the age of just 18, he became "the most expensive teenager in British football history" after Manchester United forked out $15 million for his transfer to the team. These days, he is thought to have a net worth of $1.2 billion.

Incredible earnings have helped Cristiano and his glamorous wife, Georgina Rodríguez, 32, purchase a collection of lavish houses, including a $25million (£18.7million) mansion near the exclusive Quinta da Marinha, an area fondly known as the Portuguese Riviera.

He is thought to have purchased the property a few years ago for around $7 million (£5.2million), eventually spending an additional $20 million (£15million) on reconstruction. It is said to be 5,000 square meters on a 12,000-meter plot.

Building works apparently included a 30-car garage to house Cristiano's prized collection of cars.

The mansion reportedly features several large bedroom suites with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

The indoor glass pool will even feature an underfloor passage, allowing people to see others swimming above them.

A theatre, spa, and games room are also thought to have been built into the glamorous pad.

The house’s interiors have been finished with only the finest materials and "bespoke" elements, creating a home "centered on comfort and wellbeing".

Italian marble, solid-gold faucets, and a one-off Louis Vuitton mural are said to decorate the interior of the glitzy mansion.

The property is so glamorous that it’s earned a spot among the most expensive private homes in Portugal today, valued at around $25 million (£18.7million).

The eye-watering price point reflects not only the enviable range of amenities but the exclusive residential enclave it’s situated in.

Cristiano even attempted to buy one of the nearby golf courses in hopes that it would provide him and his family with greater security, but his offer was rejected.

In recent years, Cascais has become one of the most sought-after holiday destinations in the world, boasting numerous golf courses, protected natural surroundings, and proximity to Lisbon.

Cristiano and Georgina are the proud owners of several luxury properties, including in Saudi Arabia, Spain, Italy, England, and the UAE. The combined value of their properties is around $86 million (£64million).
