This is timed with the latest fact-free letter that the Wall Street Journal claimed was “bananas” only after the Washington Post noted the shoddy fact checking for a “letter to the editor”. And then there’s the Tucker Carlson “black helicopter” piece defending the Insurrection. It’s clear this agitation/propaganda was in advance of Tuesday’s election, but likely we will see new Big Lie stunts to distract from continuing thorough reporting on the Insurrection.

The only government plot appears to be the plot hatched by Trump and his henchmen to stay in power, but the worst part of what Tucker is doing is that we've already seen what his brand of hate-filled rhetoric can do to America. Like in 2017 when White Supremacists descended on Charlottesville, Virginia and engaged in violent demonstrations and left an innocent woman dead. Or the mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue. Or in 2019, the massacre in Texas. All carried out by gunmen who wanted to stop migrants. Sounds a lot like those you continue to see on Tucker's program. And of course, Trump's big lie reverberated inside the far right echo chamber for weeks before the political violence exploded at the Capitol.
The reason why federal investigators and millions of Americans are terrified by right wing violence in this country is because it keeps happening and Tucker Carlson is inciting more of it. Tucker is calling his propaganda flick the Patriot Purge. It's nothing more than Proud Boy porn. And the worst part is that a major corporation in America, FOX, is bankrolling it. Now, FOX is insisting Tucker's manifesto will only be seen on its streaming service. FOX Nation. Please. No matter how you slice it, the Murdoch family, which controls FOX, is cashing in as American democracy is being set ablaze. The fact that the Murdoch-run Wall Street Journal just ran a letter to the editor from Trump peddling the big lie again is hardly the worst thing they've done this week, and that's saying a lot.
As the Anti-Defamation League wrote in a letter to the CEO and Chairman, Lachlan Murdoch, how many more people need to die? My question to the Murdochs is this. Why are you doing this to us? Why are you doing this to America? You came to this country and built a media empire. Isn't that enough? During Trump, you became American State TV. Now you seem like End-Of-America State TV. People like to say, "The Murdochs, oh, they're just like that HBO show, Succession." Close. It's more like Secession. The Murdochs and Tucker Carlson, their prime time pyromaniac, appear to be hell bent on dragging this country into a civil war. Jefferson Davis would be proud.

“Trump couldn’t post this on Facebook but the editors at the WSJ collectively decided to put it on their platform. Think about that. And they think they can distance themselves from it by doing it as an LTE. As of that magically absolves them from pushing the lies,” tweeted Amanda Carpenter, political columnist for The Bulwark.
Jordan Fischer, an investigative reporter for Washington, D.C., channel WUSA9, called it a “new low” for the Journal’s opinion section.
“Today they printed a litany of election falsehoods from former President Trump – without even a single mention of the fact that their own editorial side has thoroughly debunked these claims,” he tweeted.
Washington Post national correspondent Philip Bump made 14 observations about the letter’s veracity and observed that “the Journal would have been better served had it explained why it chose to run the letter without contextualizing it, since that might have at least offered some clarity on the otherwise inexplicable decision.” He noted that the paper had, up to that point, declined to comment on its rationale.
In response to a request for comment, a Journal spokesperson directed HuffPost to a new editorial published by the newspaper’s board on Thursday addressing the backlash.
The editorial argues that Trump’s “2020 monomania is news, and it reflects on his fitness for 2024” and argued that media “attempts to censor Mr. Trump have done nothing to diminish his popularity.”
“We trust our readers to make up their own minds about his statement,” the editorial read. “And we think it’s news when an ex-President who may run in 2024 wrote what he did, even if (or perhaps especially if) his claims are bananas.”

BEFORE THE ATTACK
Law enforcement officials did not respond with urgency to a cascade of warnings about violence on Jan. 6
Alerts were raised by local officials, FBI informants, social media companies, former national security officials, researchers, lawmakers and tipsters.
The FBI received numerous warnings about Jan. 6 but felt many of the threatening statements were “aspirational” and could not be pursued. In one tip on Dec. 20, a caller told the bureau that Trump supporters were making plans online for violence against lawmakers in Washington, including a threat against Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah). The agency concluded the information did not merit further investigation and closed the case within 48 hours.
One of the biggest efforts to come out of Sept. 11, 2001 — a national network of multi-agency intelligence centers — spotted a flood of Jan. 6 warnings, but federal agencies did not show much interest in its information.
The FBI limited its own understanding of how extremists were mobilizing when it switched its social media monitoring service on the last weekend of 2020.
Pentagon leaders had acute fears about widespread violence, and some feared Trump could misuse the National Guard to remain in power
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy was left rattled by Trump’s firing of senior Pentagon officials just after the election and sought to put guardrails on deployment of the National Guard.
Then-acting defense secretary Christopher C. Miller did not believe Trump would misuse the military but worried that far-right extremists could bait soldiers into “a Boston Massacre-type situation.” Their fears contributed to a fateful decision to keep soldiers away from the Capitol on Jan. 6.
The Capitol Police was disorganized and unprepared
The U.S. Capitol Police had been tracking threatening social media posts for weeks but was hampered by poor communication and planning.
The department’s new head of intelligence concluded on Jan. 3 that Trump supporters had grown desperate to overturn the election and “Congress itself” would be the target. But then-Chief Steven Sund did not have that information when he initiated a last-minute request to bring in National Guard soldiers, one that was swiftly rejected.

As the president exerted pressure on state officials, the Justice Department and his vice president to overturn the results, his public attacks on the vote mobilized his supporters to immediately plot violent acts — discussions that researchers watched unfold online.
