Hereford and County Athletics Club have plenty to celebrate after a memorable English Schools Track and Field Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on July 10 and 11.

The highlight came in the 4 x 100m Junior Mixed Relay, where Ethan Sibanda was part of the Hereford and Worcester Schools team that stormed to a bronze medal with a rapid time of 47.01 seconds in a thrilling final — a fantastic achievement on the national stage.

Ethan was not finished there.

The junior sprinter also lined up in the individual 100m, where he clocked a personal best of 11.79 seconds to finish 20th overall in the junior boys' event — a strong showing in one of the most competitive sprints of the weekend.

Charlie Coleman produced a gutsy run in the junior boys' 1500m, crossing the line in 4:26.17 to finish 34th overall against the best young middle-distance runners in the country.

Liam Shekyls rounded off an impressive weekend for the club with a time of 51.28 seconds in the intermediate boys' 400m, finishing 14th overall — a highly creditable placing in what is one of athletics' most demanding events.

All three athletes had earned their places at the championships by representing Hereford and Worcester Schools, having demonstrated they were among the finest performers in their events in the region.

The championships, now in their 95th year, attracted top young athletes from 46 participating counties.
