A thief who targeted numerous homes and vehicles on a stealing spree has been jailed.

David King is now behind bars after pleading guilty to 14 separate offences relating to a series of crimes committed in Allestree between Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15.

The 35-year-old tried to break into numerous homes and vehicles, managing to steal money and a metal Yankee Candle air freshener.

He also committed fraud by dishonestly using someone else’s bank card to make a purchase at ASDA in Duffield Road on Tuesday, April 14.

He was arrested after officers reviewed CCTV footage of his crimes and identified him as a suspect.

King, of no fixed abode, was charged with six counts of theft from a motor vehicle, four counts of attempted burglary, two counts of vehicle interference, one count of attempted theft from a motor vehicle and one count of fraud.

He admitted all charges during an appearance at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Friday, April 17.

King was jailed for two years and seven months during an appearance at Derby Crown Court on Monday, July 13.

Detective Sergeant Louise Munday, of the Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team, said: "King targeted numerous homes all very close to each other and in a very short space of time causing distress and financial loss for the victims.

"We are pleased that he has been handed a sentence which reflects the callous and brazen nature of his crimes."
