A Missouri woman was reported missing after she suddenly stopped posting on social media and her dog was found abandoned.

Friends and family of Janice Cook, 43, went to police after they hadn't heard from her since March 28. 

The Henry County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Cook's disappearance, noting her daily social media posting had suddenly stopped on the day she was last seen. 

Now, two men face charges after a body was found in the search for her.

Cook's last known location was traced to the Windsor and Leeton area after her phone was found to have pinged there in the early hours of March 28. 

In Johnson County, Cook's vehicle was found abandoned with the keys still inside and her dog was found around a mile away. 

She had made one of her last phone calls to a number belonging to Billy Tabor, who resides in Windsor, and after questioning him, it emerged she had been at his home, police said in a release. 

The investigation led detectives to determine that Cook was the victim of a homicide and her body was on the property. 

'At this time, investigators have located and recovered a deceased individual following an extensive search effort,' the release continued.

'Recovery operations have been conducted over the past two days during the execution of the search warrant. Based on the totality of the investigation, the deceased is believed to be Janice Cook.'

Tabor acknowledged that Cook had called him at around midnight on March 28, according to documents obtained by KCTV 5. 

Investigators said Tabor had claimed Cook went to his home for a couple of hours before leaving, with no idea where she was headed, the outlet reported. 

The investigation uncovered a witness who said they arrived to Tabor's at around 2am and saw Cook lying on the ground, admitting that he believed her to be dead. 

A probable cause affidavit said that Tabor then allegedly dragged Cook with a Honda CR-V to a lower portion of his property near water. The witness said that Tabor instructed him to dig a grave, and the pair wrapped Cook in black fabric and buried her. 

The witness added that Tabor allegedly said that they 'would not have to worry about JJ anymore,' a nickname often used for Cook, the outlet reported. 

Tabor, when asked if he had killed Cook, allegedly laughed and walked away without answering, according to documents seen by the outlet. An interview later said that Tabor denied any involvement in Cook's death before invoking his right to an attorney. 

Police arrested Tabor, 70, on charges of first-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse on April 30.

Colby Dean Eisel, 39, was also arrested on May 1 and charged with abandonment of a corpse. It is believed he had been the witness.

According to the outlet, Eisel led investigators through Tabor's property to discover Cook's body. 

'The Henry County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Janice Cook during this difficult and tragic time,' the release said. 

Cook's brother, Corey, wrote on Facebook: 'It is with a heavy heart that I tell you all my sister Janice has been found. They have her body.'

'The individual charged is a piece of s*** Billy Ray Tabor, and his accomplice... Thank you all to those that came forward to me with information while I was there, and especially to those who approached me at the park... The police have said the information was crucial in finding her.'

Corey previously wrote on April 16 that he traveled to where his sister vanished from in Windsor to help in the search for her. 

Tasha Green, a friend of Cook's, wrote on her Facebook page: 'I love you friend and it's really sad and unfortunate what has happened to you.'

'You were the second person I met in Windsor. You were living in a tent and I took you and moved you in with me. I wanted to protect you because I told you that you were too good of a person to have to live like this alone and that it was not safe for you to be out here by yourself,' Green continued.

'I don't know what happened and why this monster did this to you but whatever the case may had been there's nothing you could have done to deserve what that monster did to you.' 

Both suspects are currently behind bars at the Henry County Detention Center. Tabor is being held with no bond and Eisel is on a $250,000 cash-only bond. 

Tabor is set to appear in court on May 5, while Eisel has not been assigned a day in court as of Saturday afternoon. 

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
