Doja Cat has revealed for the first time that she suffers from borderline personality disorder (BPD).

In a candid post shared to TikTok on Friday, the Grammy-winner, 30, confessed that she has been 'struggling' with the diagnosis and has been in therapy for years.

She made the mental health confession while defending fellow music star Chappell Roan over a recent viral video of her angrily confronting paparazzi in Paris.

Doja expressed how much she admired Roan for upholding boundaries in 'uncomfortable' situations - something Doja said she herself has struggled with for much of her life.

'I've learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I'm happy, to pretend that I don't like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is OK,' she said in her TikTok video.

'I'll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I'm now struggling with BPD.'

In a candid post shared to TikTok on Friday, the Grammy-winner, 30, confessed that she's been 'struggling' with the diagnosis and has been in therapy for years

BPD is 'a mental health condition that affects the way people feel about themselves and others, making it hard to function in everyday life,' according to the Mayo Clinic

The mental health condition causes symptoms such as 'mood swings, anger and impulsiveness.'

Doja, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, said she has been 'struggling' with BPD for 'probably forever' and described it as an 'agonizing' experience.

'I've been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself.

'I've made it so far, and I still make mistakes,' she said before adding that she has been on a mental health journey of 'treatment and healing.'

In the same TikTok, Doja said she respects Roan's ability to 'be honest,' which is something that she herself 'had to learn.'

Doja Cat referenced the Missouri-born singer's latest run-in with Paris photographers and said she admired that the young star 'can be uncomfortable, comfortably in front of people, and protect herself and be honest.'

'I had to learn to be honest. I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life, and to see her sit there, and I love it.'

Doja, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, said she has been 'struggling' with BPD for 'probably forever' and described it as an 'agonizing' experience

She continued: 'I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn't hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.'

Doja said that she 'respects the hustle' of photographers and autograph resellers while also defending Roan and her position.

She explained how as a fellow artist, she is often followed around by people 'who are not fans' though it may look like they are ignoring people who are their fans.

Doja asked critics to 'put that s*** to bed.'

'Let her have an attitude, because I would love to have one as well. And I f***ing will, in the future.'

Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, recently went viral after fans called her out for her 'attitude' in a confrontation with paparazzi while she was going out for dinner in Paris.

She filmed the photographers and fans while they were recording her and slammed them for 'harassing' her and 'disregarding all of my boundaries.'

The pop star confronted the group gathering outside of a restaurant. In a video, she said: 'I'm just trying to go to dinner, and I've asked these people several times to get away from me.'

'I had to learn to be honest. I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life, and to see her sit there, and I love it,' Doja told fans; seen in 2025

She pointed her phone camera to a specific individual and added: 'This person, I've asked several times to go away, and they will not.

'They're hiding their face because they're ashamed, because I've asked them.'

She later added: 'All of you, I'm asking you kindly to please leave me alone and stop following me and harassing me.'

She also turned down a fan's request for an autograph and later said to her own phone camera: 'This is what it's like, if you were wondering how it is.'
