West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya dismissed Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra's claims of egg-throwing at her party office, attributing the incident to internal TMC disputes. He urged Moitra to engage with constituents directly. This follows Moitra sharing a video alleging BJP supporters attacked her Krishnanagar office, with Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemning the act and questioning police inaction.
Kolkata: Rejecting Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra’s allegations that BJP workers have thrown eggs at her party office in Nadia district, West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Wednesday claimed that internal feud within Trinamool Congress was the cause behind such incidents.
Bhattacharya reiterated that egg-throwing must stop and the TMC leader, who is hiding inside her home, must come out and work on ground.
Bhattacharya was speaking on the sidelines of a launch of an AI platform by a group called Business Aladdin.
Bhattacharya's remarks came after Moitra shared a video on social media alleging that BJP supporters had gathered outside her office in Krishnanagar.
In a video, Moitra claimed that a group had hurled eggs and other objects at the premises and alleged that the West Bengal Police remained silent.
In the video, Moitra was heard saying that she was being attacked in her own constituency despite informing senior police officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP). She alleged that eggs, vegetables and other objects were thrown at her office.
Meanwhile, Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the “egg attack” and said in his X Handle, “I strongly condemn the attack on MP @MahuaMoitra. The silence of the WB Police, despite the High Court’s recent direction to the DGP to ensure appropriate safeguards, raises serious questions. Is this what PORIBARTAN was meant to look like? When an elected representative is heckled simply because she refuses to bend, it is not an expression of strength. It is an admission of insecurity and cowardice. To those clapping from the sidelines: Don’t mistake today’s political power for permanent immunity. Every abuse of authority leaves a mark and every act of intimidation is remembered. The tide of politics changes faster than many expect.”
