Two RAF jets were scrambled to escort a flight bound for Manchester Airport tonight (Friday, July 24).
The drama unfolded after Qatar Airways flight QR23 from the Qatari capital Doha to Manchester Airport entered UK airspace this evening.
The RAF have confirmed a 'quick reaction alert' was activated as the flight was 'causing concern to civil authorities.'

It is not yet clear what the nature of the concern was.
There are, as yet unconfirmed, reports from aviation webites that air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft.
The Manchester Evening News understands the alert led to two typhoon jets being dispatched to escort the aircraft.
The escort is said to have been discontinued and called off well before the plane reached Manchester.
It landed as normal at Manchester Airport at 8:01pm and was not greeted by emergency services, it is understood.
Qatar Airways have been approached for comment.
An RAF spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an RAF Quick Reaction Alert was launched for a Qatar Airways flight which was causing concern to civil authorities.
“The incident was resolved and the airliner landed safely at Manchester Airport.”
