A County Durham man has appeared in court and a Newcastle man has been released on bail

Officers have made an eighth arrest in connection with shootings in the North East earlier this week. At around 10.50pm on Wednesday, July 22, police responded to reports that a firearm had been discharged at a property on Flint Close in Grangetown.

The following day, at 3.15pm, Cleveland Police received a report of a firearm being discharged at a property on Bevanlee Road, in South Bank. The force said extensive enquiries, including house-to-house and CCTV checks, are ongoing into the incidents. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incidents.

A 26-year-old man was arrested last night, Friday, July 24, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He is currently in police custody for questioning.

A 40-year-old man arrested on Thursday, July 23, has now been charged with possession of a firearm without a certificate, and possession within intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs. He can now be named as Thomas Livingstone, 40, from Oval grange, Hartlepool. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Teesside Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday, July 25.

Leo Durrant-Hoe, 19, of Burnie Gardens in Shildon, was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm and appeared before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 24.

A 40-year-old woman, a 34-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two men - a 32-year-old from Newcastle, and a 23-year-old from Hartlepool - arrested for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear violence, have also been bailed, Teesside Live reports.

Chief Superintendent Louise Galliott-Thornton said: “We know that these incidents are concerning for those living in communities in Grangetown and Southbank and will continue to have a strong police presence in these areas for the foreseeable future. If you have any concerns, please speak to your ward neighbourhood officers who will be patrolling in the area.

“I would urge anyone with information, dash cam or doorbell footage to call 101 or online at www.cleveland.police.uk, quoting reference 145138.

“If you feel that you cannot approach police directly, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers, where you can provide information anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

In response to the incidents, Cleveland Police introduced a Section 60 order, from 6.20pm on Thursday, to remain in place for 24 hours. Under the order, officers are granted powers to stop and search any individual when appropriate.
