The supernatural thriller “Grim Death and Bill the Electrocuted Criminal” is being turned into a TV show.

The 2017 novel, by “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola and Thomas E. Sniegoski (“The Fallen”), is being developed into a series by Echoverse, a sci-fi and fantasy audio content studio now making its way into television. Echoverse has previously adapted the work into an audio drama starring Cory Michael Smith and Merritt Wever. The new project, which has already started pre-production, will either be a standard show or one optimized for the short-form vertical viewing market.

Per the logline, the novel is “a darkly comedic story about a man named Bentley who, in order to release his parents from purgatory, has agreed to work for Death avenging those who have been killed before their time. Aiding him in his supernatural quest is Bentley’s acerbic butler Pym, headstrong journalist Gwen and nearly dead sidekick Bill.”

The podcast, which debuted on Cineverse’s Bloody Disgusting in 2025, received many accolades, including being a 2026 Podcast Showcase selection at the Tribeca Festival; winning best fiction podcast and fiction podcast writing at the Communicator Awards; taking bronze for drama podcast at New York Festivals Radio Awards; and more.

“From the minute we read the novel, we thought Tom and Mike had created something unique and special,” Echoverse president Mark Stern said in a statement. “Seeing the incredible response the audio-drama has received — not just from fans, but from critics — only confirmed that. We couldn’t be more excited to see this richly textured world become a compelling television series, hopefully with this superlative cast reprising their roles.” 

“Getting a call from Mike Mignola to run an idea by you is always exciting, but when it’s something like ‘Grim Death and Bill the Electrocuted Criminal,’ you just can’t believe your luck,” Sniegoski added. “‘Grim Death’ is everything I love about storytelling — masked vigilantes, spunky dame reporters, ghosts, monkeys with straight razors and a talking raven that works for Death — what more could a guy ask for?”

“I feel like mostly what I did was come up with a funny (but sort of brilliant) title and then had the good sense to pass it on to Tom,” Mignola added. “I’m sure I had a few ideas but from the very beginning this thing had Sniegoski written all over it.”

Mignola and Sniegoski are both attached to the television project as executive producers.
