Despite the New York Mets season sinking quickly, team owner and billionaire Steve Cohen has no intention of changing captains for his ship.

The Mets, who own the worst record in all of baseball, have long been tipped to fire their manager Carlos Mendoza.

However, according to multiple reports, president of baseball operations David Stearns has informed Mendoza that his job is safe.

'We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more,' Stearns told MLB.com.

However, the decision maker for the Mets added, 'We don't view this as a manager problem, and we don't intend to make a change.'

The Mets have lost five of their last six games and recently came off a 12 game losing streak.

President of Baseball Operations David Stearns (R) says the record is 'not a manager problem'

The Mets are the worst team in baseball, having lost five of their last six contests

It's the worst run through the first 31 games that the Mets have had since 1981. In addition to '81, the only team worse than this year's squad was the 1964 Mets.

Mendoza saw a majority of his coaching staff depart in the offseason after the Mets fell one game short of the 2025 postseason.

Despite starting the season with the best record in baseball, the Mets fell apart in the second half of the campaign.

This is Mendoza's final season in a three-year contract which includes a 2027 club option.

Keeping Mendoza may come as a surprise considering the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies - who are struggling, but are better than the Mets - fired their respective managers within the past week and a half.

However, the Mets have not fired a manager mid-season since Willie Randolph was canned in 2008 and replaced with Jerry Manuel.

The Mets now will try to get back to their winning ways against the similarly struggling Los Angeles Angels.
