As the second-most-in-demand free agent of the baseball offseason, Yoshinobu Yamamoto picked his American destination to play with the only more-sought-after player on the market, Shohei Ohtani.  

'I was told by a source who knows the Japanese baseball scene very well... Yamamoto simply wanted to be a Dodger and play with Ohtani in no particular order,' MLB Network's Jon Morosi said Friday morning. 

Yamamoto's landmark 12-year, $325-million dollar deal with the Dodgers gives the National League behemoths a Japanese duo that'll be some of the faces of its franchise for the next decade-plus. 

Ohtani signed with the Dodgers on December 9, while Yamamoto announced his intentions of coming to Los Angeles late Thursday night. 

The New York Mets reportedly offered the same contract to Yamamoto, while it's believed the New York Yankees' offer topped out at $300 million. 

Yamamoto's contract is believed to be structured that way because of his age, matched with experience. 

He's 25 and considered young enough to have more than a decade of good years left to pitch. 

Yamamoto has also won the last three Sawamura Awards, Japanese baseball's equivalent to the Cy Young, but only one is given out for the entire league. 

The contract is a massive investment for the Dodgers, as Yamamoto has never stood on a mound or an MLB game. 

Yet, he's played in a league stadium before and showed his impressive form at the World Baseball Classic earlier this year.
