Is there any pop star busier than Olivia Rodrigo right now? Only halfway through the year, she's already rattled through a hefty chunk of her 2026 to-do list at breakneck speed. Let's recap everything she's ticked off, shall we? Number one: drop her third, number-one album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. Number two: ensure said album includes several bangers that will also inevitably become chart-toppers. Number three: Host SNL, appear on magazine covers and spark one of the year's biggest fashion trends. OK, we lost count a bit there. There's just too much to keep track of.

And believe it or not, the best is yet to come. On 29th August, Rodrigo will take on her most ambitious project yet with the launch of her very own festival, Daisy Chain Fields, in California. It's set to be momentous occasion – partly because it's been curated by the same woman who gave us “Driver's License”, but also because the lineup is entirely made up of women.

Yep, that's right. At a time when festival lineups continue to fall short on gender representation (in 2022, a study found that only 13 per cent of UK headliners were women), Rodrigo has taken matters into her own hands. As you'd expect, the lineup is next-level: from Chappell Roan and Doechii to Bikini Kill and Garbage, Daisy Chain Fields has wrangled musical legends from all eras for a day of unbridled riot grrrl energy. And when we say legends, we mean it: Stevie Nicks, Karen O and Sarah McLachlan will also be making appearances, the latter of whom also founded her own all-female festival, Lilith Fair, in 1997.

Pretty impressive for a girl so busy being a pop star. And just as much effort has gone into curating the festival's merch. Partnering with a roster of all-female independent makers on Etsy, the new Daisy Chain Fields collection goes far beyond your typical range of basic tees and hoodies. From flower crowns and beaded jewellery to playing cards and junk journal kits, these are proper keep-forever pieces, co-designed with Rodrigo to capture the girl-power spirit of the festival. Even better, the blessed among us who managed to bag tickets will be able to meet the sellers and customise their merch at the on-site Etsy Creative Village. Can't make it to Cali? No worries. Livvies around the can still get their hands on the collection online. Phew.

The drop couldn't come at a better time. Festival season is officially in full swing, which means we've been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about what to wear (and pack) for long summer days spent moshing, raving and listening to great music. Who better to ask for advice than a freshly-minted festival founder? Dialling in from LA, Olivia Rodrigo stole 10 mins from her packed schedule to give us the lowdown on Daisy Chain Fields and her rules for festival dressing. This just in: flower crowns are back, baby.

Hi Olivia! Daisy Chain Fields is such an incredible – and huge – project. How long it been in the works?

I've had the idea for like a year or two. It was always something that was really exciting and sort of terrifying, because it meant so much to me – I just I really believed in the concept and the spirit of the festival. I started pursuing it heavily a year ago, booking people and bringing it to fruition. It's been a joyful experience to watch it all unfold. I feel feel really grateful to everyone who's so generously lent their time, energy and effort into it.

Women have long been underrepresented on festival lineups, which is why an all-female festival like Daisy Chain Fields feels so groundbreaking. What inspired you to level the playing field?

I was definitely really inspired by Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair. Growing up as a musician, all of the artists who partook in the original Lilith Fair were were huge heroes of mine. And in general, my favourite music has been written by women, so it just made sense to make this festival where we could all support each other and share in our collective power.

The line-up is packed with so many powerful women. Who are you most excited to see perform on the day?

Gosh, I literally could not pick! Basically, this festival is me being like, ‘Who are all of my favourite artists?’ and just asking them to perform. It's sort of a dream scenario. I'm going to try to make an effort to see every single one of the artists, but I'm going be so tired by the time it comes to my set because I'll have been rocking out all day. I haven't figured out the logistics, but I feel like I would be remiss to be planning this for a whole year and then not actually get to experience it to its fullest.

You've partnered with independent Etsy makers on the festival merch. How does that feed into the ethos of Daisy Chain Fields?

I was actually really inspired by my music video for The Cure. Almost every part of that set was something that a real artisan kind of made with their hands. I really enjoyed that process and wanted to keep it going in this festival space. I'm also really excited to have these craft stations all around the festival where people can like make a bookmark or a daisy chain flower crown. I just think that really captures the spirit of the festival: people making things, being creative and having a little something to take home with them.

Have you got your eye on any pieces in particular?

The flower crown was a big must! I always picture people with flower crowns at festival – and obviously, the name is Daisy Chain Fields. I also really like the playing cards – I'm definitely going to use those in my real life. My go-to game is called Nerds, which is basically like competitive solitaire. My friends and I seriously play it for hours, and would rather play do that than almost anything else. We're addicted.

What are your personal rules for festival style?

Comfort over anything. I love a big pair of boots that are comfy to walk in – that's the main thing. Every everyone is different, but it's going to be pretty hot in August when we put on this festival, so I think people are going to be breaking out their sundresses and short shorts. I'm all here for that. I love to see people expressing themselves. It's always fun when people coordinate with their friends too – when people are matching or they have T-shirts that spell something out. That always makes me really happy [to see in the crowd]. But whatever people are comfortable in and want to rage and jump around in, that's what they should wear.

Your own outfits have become pretty iconic. Which style icons are on your mood board when you're putting together looks for festivals and performances?

I always think of that picture of Kate Moss at Glastonbury with her shorts and her wellies. That's just such an iconic outfit. But for stage, my style inspo has always been people like PJ Harvey and Debbie Harry – women who look so cool and make dope rock music.

How do you hope Daisy Chain Fields will grow after its inaugural festival this summer?

I hope to do it every year. I can't wait to continue its spirit and legacy. I want it to be a beacon of hope for people. I hope girls can come to the festival and leave feeling more empowered, more educated about you know their rights, their bodies and their futures. Women's stories and ambitions are so important and so often overlooked. I hope that this festival can be an emblem of what can happen when we support each other and dream really big.
