Burglars decamped with 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and ₹5 lakh cash from the house of a coir businessman at Pudupettai village in Tirupattur on Saturday. 

The police said that the victim K. Manivannan, 52, along with his family, had gone to Tiruttani town and found their house burgled on their return.

When his wife Kaviya, 47, checked the cupboard, she found gold ornaments, cash and silver objects were missing.

He alerted Natrampalli police, who reached the spot with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. The police have also taken CCTV camera footage along the route. The Superintendent of Police Akshay Anil Wakhare has formed special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered. A probe is under way.
