A Merlin Annual Pass unlocks access to more than 20 top attractions across the UK, including Alton Towers, Legoland and Chessington World of Adventures

The arrival of the school summer holidays has no doubt left parents across the UK scrambling for ways to keep their kids entertained for the next six weeks that don't cost a fortune. And savvy shoppers have found a way to save on days out at theme parks, aquariums, zoos and more.

Anyone who shops at Tesco will likely already have a free Clubcard, which unlocks exclusive deals and discounts in the supermarket and allows shoppers to save up points. But some customers might not be aware that they don't have to spend these points on groceries - they can turn them into vouchers to use with one of Tesco's Clubcard reward partners, with more than 240 to choose from.

One new addition to the reward scheme is the Merlin Annual Pass, which unlocks access to more than 20 top attractions across the UK. This includes the Greater Manchester family favourite Alton Towers just an hour and a half away, as well as Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, LEGOLAND Windsor, and SEA LIFE Aquariums, along with plenty more.

Even better, Tesco Clubcard points double in value when spent on the Merlin Annual Pass and with the other reward partners, meaning every 50p worth of vouchers (50 Clubcard points) is worth £1. The cheapest Merlin Annual Pass is priced at £139, which can therefore be bought with £69.50 of Clubcard vouchers.

Clubcard members can use any value they have in vouchers towards their individual pass and pay the difference with another payment method if needed. There's also the option to upgrade to the new Merlin Gold Pass for £239 or the Merlin Platinum Pass for £299, each of which come with extra perks and entry dates.

A day ticket to Alton Towers is priced from £68 on the door for anyone over 90cm in height, although buying tickets in advance online can slash this price by as much as 50%. Nevertheless, this means that a single trip can cost anywhere from £136 to £272 or more for a family of four, so a Merlin Pass would soon pay for itself for any thrill-seeking theme park regulars.

For anyone heading to the UK's biggest theme park this summer, Alton Towers is home to more than 40 rides and attractions for all ages to enjoy. As well as white-knuckle rollercoasters, there's a water park with lazy rivers, pools and slides, as well as the beloved CBeebies Land where little ones can meet Bluey and take on a rollercoaster adventure with the Octonauts.

Merlin Pass holders should note that there are restriction dates when their pass may not be valid depending on which tier they have. For example, the Essential and Discovery passes cannot be used on Saturdays in August, or over the August bank holiday weekend.

In addition, Tesco Clubcard customers should also bear in mind that they need at least 150 points to be able to request a voucher. In addition, points collection periods are quarterly, ending in May, August, November and February, and customers can't request vouchers for two weeks before the end of each collection period.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use Clubcard points to get a Merlin Annual Pass or spend them with any of Tesco's other reward partners:

1. Check prices in the 'What you need to know' section.
2. Select the amount of Clubcard vouchers you'd like to exchange. You can top-up the price difference with another payment method on the Partner website. Remember, there's no money back for overpayment using a Reward Partner code.
3. When you've completed your order look out for a confirmation email. A second email containing your Partner code will arrive shortly after.
4. If you placed your order in the app, your code will appear in the 'My rewards' section within 15 minutes, you will also receive the emails.
5. To redeem your code click the link in the email to the Partner website and enter your code where asked. If you ordered in the app this link can be found in 'How to redeem' in the 'My rewards' section.

It's not just days out in the UK that Tesco Clubcard holders can spend their vouchers on - families can also save on holidays abroad this summer and beyond too. More reward partners where Clubcard points are worth double include Eurocamp, easyJet Holidays, and P&O Cruises.

And as for keeping the kids entertained on home shores, Clubcard points can also be turned into restaurant vouchers. What's more, points are worth double when spent at the likes of ASK Italian, Bella Italia Frankie & Benny's, Zizzi, Las Iguanas and PizzaExpress, helping households to make their money stretch further throughout the school holidays.
