An actress from the 1980s and 1990s was spotted last Saturday in Palm Desert, California attending one of the No Kings protests taking place around the country.

In decades past, she embarked on a promising run in Hollywood, acting alongside such names as Brad Pitt and Christian Slater. 

She appeared on some of the most enduringly beloved TV shows of the era as well, ranging from 21 Jump Street to Melrose Place.

However by the late 1990s her career had dwindled, and after one final straight-to-video picture she retired from the entertainment industry in 2002.

Now aged 58, she was glimpsed recently attending an anti-Trump demonstration where she held a sign that read: 'Operation Epic Failure,' in a dig at the American government's official name for the Iran War, Operation Epic Fury.

She is none other than Cheryl Pollak, Brad Pitt's co-star in his first motion picture as a leading man, the 1988 US-Yugoslav production The Dark Side of the Sun.

Pitt starred as a man with a skin condition so severe that he has to keep sunlight off his flesh at all times, requiring him to cover up completely while outdoors.

Pollak featured as a actress who finds his character attractive while veiled entirely in leather biker gear, but who has no interest when she sees what he actually looks like.

She first acted with Pitt on a 1987 episode of the beloved high school sitcom 21 Jump Street, with both of them serving as guest stars.

During her recent sighting at the Palm Desert protest, Pollak draped her svelte figure in a flowing collared shirt and a set of cutoff trousers. 

Opting for a minimalistic look where makeup was concerned, she protected her still youthful complexion from the sunshine with shades and a baseball cap.

While not marching with her poster that day, Pollak could be spotted settling down for refreshments at an alfresco table at a local Mexican restaurant.

Born in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1967, she began her Hollywood career at 19 and made her movie debut in the 1987 horror comedy My Best Friend Is a Vampire.

She featured in that picture alongside Robert Sean Leonard, who later became known as one of the Robin Williams character's students in Dead Poets Society. 

Her work also included the 1990 teen drama Pump Up the Volume, which was led by Christian Slater as a high school student operating a pirate radio station.

Pollak could be spotted in guest spots on TV series ranging from Alien Nation and Quantum Leap to Hotel Malibu and JAG.

She has been married since 1999 to Richard Murphy, who had directed her in the previous year's film Betty, a comedy starring her as a runaway actress who takes refuge in Palm Springs, where hijinks ensue.

Her co-stars in that picture included Holland Taylor, 83 - now famous as the drastically older girlfriend of Sarah Paulson, 51 - as well as Ron Perlman and the iconic German character actor Udo Kier.

As an actress, her final project was a 2002 direct-to-video thriller called Time of Fear, starring her as an FBI agent investigating a small-town murder.

Since then she worked as a director, but even in that line of work her last offering was a 2012 animated short called Jasper: A Fabulous Fourth.
