Vita Vea reportedly has a short geographic wish list as he seeks a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Football analyst Ted Nguyen reported, citing a source, that the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle wants to join a California team or the Las Vegas Raiders. That would place the Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams and Raiders among his preferred destinations.

Based on their 2025 interior pass-rush production, the Chargers stand out as the team that needs him most.

Los Angeles finished last in the NFL with only 41 pressures from its interior defensive linemen. Its 8.30% pressure rate ranked 28th, exposing a major weakness despite the offseason addition of Dalvin Tomlinson.

Vea generated 44 pressures by himself last season—three more than the Chargers’ entire interior group. He added 4.5 sacks and 31 hurries while producing a 9.19% pressure rate. Those numbers do not guarantee the Chargers would double their production, but they illustrate the dramatic upgrade Vea would provide.

His power would give the defense a dependable pocket-collapser capable of commanding double teams, creating cleaner opportunities for the edge rushers and strengthening the middle against the run.

The 49ers are a close second, and their league-leading cap space could give them an advantage over the Chargers.

San Francisco tied for 24th with 47 interior pressures and ranked 29th with an 8.10% pressure rate. Pairing Vea with Osa Odighizuwa and a healthy Nick Bosa would make it far more difficult for opponents to slide protection toward the edge.

Vea would also provide valuable stability while Alfred Collins, Mykel Williams and Bosa work back from injuries. San Francisco offers another advantage: a Bay Area homecoming. Vea attended Milpitas High School before becoming the No. 12 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Raiders are a less compelling fit.

Las Vegas has enough draft capital to make Tampa Bay a competitive offer, but its limited cap space and rebuilding timeline create larger concerns. Absorbing Vea’s $17 million salary and potentially giving a lucrative extension to a 31-year-old defensive tackle may not align with a team beginning a new era around No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza.

Vea may also prefer a destination offering a clearer path to one final Super Bowl run.

The Rams need him least, particularly while they await Aaron Donald’s final decision on a possible reunion.

Los Angeles already led the NFL with 94 interior pressures and a 15.31% pressure rate. After investing heavily in Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, the Rams would have little reason to outbid teams with more pressing interior needs.

Tampa Bay will ultimately control the outcome and could prioritize the strongest offer over Vea’s preference.

Among the four reported destinations, however, the Chargers and 49ers have the strongest cases. San Francisco offers the homecoming, financial flexibility and a championship-caliber front. Los Angeles presents the greatest need.

For the Chargers, Vea would not be a luxury. He could transform the NFL’s least productive interior pass rush.
