EXCLUSIVE: A Place In The Sun star Laura Hamilton has heaped praise on her former Ministry of Mayhem colleague Holly Wiloughby, who has just launched her TV comeback on YouTube

Holly Willoughby's move to YouTube has been hailed as "great" by Laura Hamilton. Although Laura is best known for fronting A Place In The Sun, the broadcaster actually worked with Holly over two decades ago on ITV's Ministry of Mayhem.

But back then, Laura wasn't in front of the camera; instead, she was working as an Assistant Floor Manager on a range of TV shows, from Ministry of Mayhem to Big Brother, Top of the Pops, and later Family Affairs, and on films including Harry Potter.

Together is Holly's first major project since she stepped down from her role on This Morning, which she fronted until her departure in 2023. While many stars have found success by moving to digital platforms, including Laura, Together has raked in just 35,000 viewers in a day, despite Hollywood star Stanley Tucci appearing on the show.

"I think it's great for Holly as well," Laura told the Mirror. She added: "I used to work on Ministry of Mayhem as an assistant floor manager, with Holly, and obviously I also did Dancing On Ice, and Holly was on Dancing On Ice.

"It's great, there are loads of people that are, you know, keeping on their toes and—and moving with the times, and it's—it's, you know, brilliant to—to see." And Laura's former career behind the camera still pops up today, with the broadcaster working alongside her former colleagues.

She explained: "When I was on Dancing on Ice, so many of my friends who were behind the camera, cheering me on when that show went live every Sunday, were actually people that I'd worked with behind the scenes. And so it felt like my friends were there supporting me.

"Obviously, I knew that there was like this massive audience at home watching it, but it kind of took the edge off like the nerves, you know, off edge, because it was almost like, 'Oh no, I've got all my friends literally behind the camera, just literally stood the other side of the lens,' that I felt like were there for me."

She went on to say that she still sees many of her floor managers at various events and they reminisce about the times they worked together. "Sometimes I do look back and think, 'Wow, how has time gone so quickly?'" she said, adding: "I don't know whether that's also since having kids, I just think, 'Oh my word, like my children are both at secondary school now.' This September, I've got, you know, one in Year 7 and one in Year 8. Where is time going?

"I love the fact that I'm still connected to the people who have been part of my kind of journey and story from the beginning. And I feel very grateful that, really, I've had a career as long as I have!"

While Laura is still in demand for her presenting work, she's also extremely busy with her YouTube page, where she shares tips and honest advice for buying and selling, renovating homes and investing in property both in the UK and abroad. She explained: "The landscape has changed, and I've had to move... OK, I moved from behind the camera to in front of the camera, and, like, from kids' TV to daytime TV.

"But very much kind of forward-thinking, 'OK, I'm now moving into the YouTube space, the digital space, the influencer space. None of those things existed when I started in telly when I was 18. And in a way, I like it, because it kind of keeps you on your toes. You can't rest on your laurels."

Most recently, Laura has been filming in Dubai for her YouTube channel, documenting how the housing market has changed since the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. But currently, Laura is filming A Place In The Sun in the South of France – speaking of the show, she said: "Even though I've done the show I think for 15 years now, and you kind of think, 'OK, well, you know, it's the same kind of thing week in, week out,' it's not, because obviously every location is different, every house hunter has a different story, a different budget. So, every week can be completely different."

Speaking of criticism of the show, Laura explained that while some people assume house hunters don't end up buying the property, nine times out of ten, they do – with many in this series, which is currently being filmed, snapping up a new home abroad. But although Laura is well-versed in overseas properties, she's also hit her own red area after purchasing a home in Mallorca.

She said: "The whole buying process is actually very straightforward, it can be incredibly straightforward, but I think once you're through that, there's a little bit of, you know, red tape sometimes, and a lot of bureaucracy that can make things difficult. You need to get permits to change kitchens and bathrooms; that side of things is not like the UK, and it shocks me."

And there are no signs of Laura slowing down any time soon either, instead, she's busier than ever and is about to launch Laura Hamilton Home – a new interiors brand featuring curated wall art to bring warmth, character and timeless style into homes. She said: "I've created The Woodland Collection and The Mediterranean Collection, which is a series of prints that are kind of like, I guess, illustrative of my home in the UK, but then also like bringing my experiences and—and sort of places I've seen from being abroad as well in the Mediterranean.

"I've worked with a designer creating the range." And Laura has been heavily involved with the design and the artwork is displayed in her home. She added: "I think it's quite key and important to say that it's not me doing it all on my own. I work with amazing people. It's like A Place in the Sun, it's an incredible team of people that do this to make this happen, and I'm just one of those like cogs in the wheel that I'm part of it."
