Claws for concern.

Wolverine developer Insomniac has denied using generative AI after fans jumped on social media to share screenshots of a bizarre restroom sign.

Trying to cool speculation, community director James Stevenson was quick to deny the icon was generated via AI, insisting it was a "UV map bug" that messed up the symbol.

"No. This is a UV map bug and we have a fix coming," Stevenson insisted on X/Twitter. "There are no AI generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine."

"UV bug? So someone only UV'ed half the sign?" one commenter replied. "Would love to see how they laid out those UV's for a flat sign then."

"Uh... I probably would have just blamed AI, to be honest," another wrote. "Look, I made you an updated bathroom sign. Took me 10 minutes. It's yours if you need it, we can work something out."

Responding to other comments about launch issues, including Wolverine's Scent Trailers and Audio Sense indicators, which were causing crashing, Stevenson said: "They are tied to other systems in places and with so many people playing we have to be deliberate in testing to not introduce new bugs or break people. Thank you for patience".

"Wolverine's characterisation is a bright spot in this otherwise underwhelming, old-school romp that reminds us how far action games have come," we wrote in Eurogamer's Wolverine review, awarding it a middling three out of five stars.

Last week we reported that the CEO of Professor Layton developer Level-5 apologised after confirming that generative AI was used in the studio's recent showcase. Level-5 is not alone, of course - many other game companies, including Krafton, Square Enix, EA, and more, have invested heavily in AI tech.
