The small-boats crisis was laid bare yesterday after a second dinghy in two days landed in the UK.

Up to 30 migrants reached a Kent beach on Tuesday, the day after seven more landed near Folkestone, as 51 migrants on a 38-hour voyage from Normandy were finally brought ashore at Dover.

As pressure grows on the Government to deal with the crisis, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood ordered an urgent review. She admitted that even one uncontrolled landing was 'too many'.

'This was not acceptable. Our improved monitoring has led to uncontrolled crossings becoming incredibly rare. But even one is one too many,' she said in a statement.

'That is why I have ordered an urgent review by the Border Security Command into how this happened, and what must be done to ensure it doesn't happen again.'

Officials confirmed that 21 people were detained after the dinghy landed on Tuesday at Samphire Hoe beach between Dover and Folkestone.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: 'Shabana Mahmood has clearly lost control of our borders and illegal immigrants are now crossing the Channel at will.

'Two uncontrolled landings and the 100-mile crossing from Normandy in the past 72 hours should be a wake-up call for this weak Labour Government. Migrants are now evading detection in the water and the French are doing next to nothing to stop it.'

There were further tragic developments in northern France yesterday as the body of a man in his 20s was found lying on a beach near Neufchâtel-Hardelot, south of Boulogne. Earlier, a taxi boat had been seen leaving with dozens of migrants on board.

Samphire Hoe is believed to be the largest such landing since 26 migrants reached Ramsgate beach on a small boat in August 2021.

Witnesses said up to 30 people arrived shortly before noon. Video footage showed the occupants making their way up the beach before heading west towards Folkestone.

According to one witness, police arrived and attempted to track the migrants but it is not known how many managed to evade the officers.

The incident came as police continue to investigate the activist 'Danny Tommo' after he livestreamed himself appearing to slash a dinghy while a rescuer was still onboard.

Hampshire Police confirmed that it was investigating the footage.

'We are aware of a video circulating online relating to damage being caused to a boat in the English Channel on the afternoon of September 22, and we are conducting enquiries into the matter,' a spokesman said.

There were 150 small-boat arrivals on Monday and 154 on Tuesday, bringing this year's running total to 17,784, according to latest Home Office figures.

The total does not include the 51 aboard the long-distance Normandy boat, plus scores more occupants of several dinghies brought into Dover by the Border Force during the course of yesterday.
