The Canucks haven’t announced the addition to general manager Ryan Johnson’s staff, but the Vees put out on their social media channels Wednesday that Sergerie was leaving the club.

Pro scouts do tend to be former pro players. There’s been no announcement from the Canucks on the makeup of their scouting staff under Johnson, who was promoted from assistant general manager to the top job in May.
It’s certainly a quick rise for Sergerie, 40. He only spent a single campaign with the Vees, getting hired in April 2025. The Vees moved up from the Junior A ranks of the BCHL to become a WHL expansion team this past season and set various first-year team records in Canadian Major Junior hockey en route to a 44-14-6-4 regular-season finish. That put them second in the 12-team Western Conference. They made it to the conference finals, where they lost to the Everett Silvertips.
Before Penticton, Sergerie had been with the Sherwood Park Crusaders for four seasons as GM and president of hockey operations of the Alberta-based Junior A team. Sherwood Park was one of the five Alberta teams that jumped to the BCHL in January 2024.

Johnson has opted to hire several newcomers to the NHL ranks as the team looks to rebuild after last season’s last-place finish. He added player agent Daren Hermiston as director of player personnel and player development last month. There’s no NHL coaching experience with the three assistant coaches — Ryan Mougenel, Jordan Smith and Jason Krog — named to bench boss Manny Malhotra’s staff earlier this month. Jordan worked with Malhotra on Vancouver’s AHL Abbotsford Canucks affiliate, and Krog has been a skills coach with the organization.
Sergerie played four seasons of junior in the Superior International Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. He then enrolled at Lakehead University in his hometown of Thunder Bay, Ont., where he played five seasons and was the team’s captain in his last two years. At Lakehead, Sergerie earned bachelor of arts and bachelor of education degrees. He then went on to play two seasons of professional hockey in Germany.
“I have had an opportunity to watch how Adam has put together talented teams in Sherwood Park,” Vees GM and head coach Fred Harbinson said in a news release when Sergerie was hired in Penticton. “I know that his detailed approach and his ability to lead our regional scouts will give us the best opportunity to achieve our goal of winning a WHL championship and Memorial Cup.”
