Smoke filled the air as a large field fire broke out in Cambridgeshire at the weekend. Multiple fire crews from Cambridgeshire were called to a large fire on Ailwal Road in Whittlesey just before 4.30pm on Sunday (July 26).

A fire spokesperson said: “At 4.29pm on Sunday, crews from Stanground, the north roaming fire engine, Dogsthorpe, March, Thorney, Whittlesey, Wisbech, the Peterborough Volunteer Brigade, along with a specialist 4x4 vehicle from Thorney were called to a field fire on Aliwal Road in Whittlesey. Firefighters used hose reels and beaters to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further.”

The fire was later scaled down, and crews have re-inspected the field overnight to make sure it was safe.
