The family of a Perth tourist who was stabbed by her partner while on holiday in Tasmania say she is in healing from her injuries in hospital, but is facing a long road to recovery.

The woman, known only as Sarah, was on holiday in the Tasmanian suburb of Exeter when her partner stabbed her, before taking the family’s rental car and drove on the West Tamar Highway at Legana.

There, he crashed head-on with another car, killing both himself and the woman driving on her way home from work.

The woman was later identified as wife and mother Elaine Gee, a 39-year-old nurse about to celebrate her 40th birthday.

A 27-year-old Scarborough man will face court in Armadale on Wednesday after he allegedly sped away from a traffic stop in Canning Vale, injuring a police officer.

Police pulled over the man’s Mitsubishi Pajero about 11.55pm on Monday, but the driver allegedly drove off as officers were approaching the car.

An officer was injured and police gave chase, with multiple units tracking the Pajero as it drove through suburbs in Perth’s south including Bibra Lake and Leeming.

The pursuit came to an end when police deployed a tyre deflator, before the man allegedly fled the scene on foot.

He was later arrested after being caught by police on Farrington Road in Murdoch, about 6.10am on Tuesday.

Several crashes have slowed traffic to a crawl on major Perth roads this morning.

A car rollover on Tonkin Highway southbound closed the exit to Horrie Miller Drive – one of the main routes to Perth Airport – about 6am. That exit remains closed, with Main Roads WA urging motorists to “exercise extreme caution” and heavy congestion in the area.

Not long after, another crash on the Tonkin Highway northbound at Abernethy Road closed the left lane, but it was soon cleared.

Then, there was another crash at the Narrows Bridge southbound, leading to heavy traffic back to Stephenson Avenue after the right lane was closed by the incident response team.

A 25-year-old Stratton man will face court on Wednesday after allegedly leading police on a chase through Perth’s east on Tuesday afternoon.

Police allege the man was the driver of a Holden Trailblazer that failed to stop when officers attempted to pull the car over on Ferguson Street about 2.50pm.

The chase didn’t last long before the car hit a railway embankment, ending up on the train line near Farrall Road in Swan View.

Police allege the man fled the scene but was arrested nearby.

The 25-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, driver of a vehicle failed to comply with a direction to stop (circumstance of aggravation), and no authority to drive (disqualified from holding or obtaining).

He will appear before Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
