A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after another man was seriously injured in a lorry crash. The A1 near Stibbington remains closed today (Tuesday, July 28) after a crash involving two Scania lorries.

Emergency services were first called to the road just before 3am to reports of a crash, and the two lorries later caught fire. One man suffered serious injuries, while another man suffered minor injuries.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “A 43-year-old man from Saltburn, Cleveland, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

“The other driver, a 50-year-old man from Great Barr, Birmingham, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the drug-drive limit and possession of cannabis. He remains in custody.”

Cambridgeshire Police is appealing for information and dashcam footage into the crash. Anyone with information should call 101 or report it online and quote Operation Oystercatcher.

The police force has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by the force’s Professional Standards Department in relation to an earlier incident involving one of the vehicles.
