STAMFORD — Two female students were arrested after they got into a fight at Westhill High School on Thursday morning, according to school officials. 

One student was taken to Stamford Hospital as a result of the fight, and they were treated and later released, said Stamford Public Schools spokesperson Kathleen Steinberg. 

Steinberg said the fight began in the 300 hallway shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday and spilled into a nearby classroom. A school resource officer and the school’s security staff responded to separate the two students, according to Steinberg. 

Due to the severity of the fight, Steinberg said school staff called for additional emergency support, including Stamford police and emergency medical personnel. 

Security personnel cleared the hallway and courtyard for first responders, and one student was taken to the hospital. Police also removed another student, according to Steinberg. 

Stamford police Lt. Jerry Junes said the students, who are juveniles, were each charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace. 

Steinberg noted the district could not provide details about disciplinary action involving individual students, but Board of Education policy states that students who assault another student, staff members or other people could lead to removal from class, suspension or expulsion.
